ONA's corporate area covers a number of areas: human resources, security, facilities, business management, IT, information management, report production, administration and executive assistant positions. Within, and often across, its small sections, employees cover a wide range of tasks rather than specialising.
Jen - (APS6) Office Manager
In the 2 years I've been here, I used ONA's study leave provisions to complete my Graduate Certificate in Business Administration. ONA encourages and supports staff who undertake relevant training. Working in the corporate area, there are many business-as-usual tasks, but in a small team and a small agency you get a diversity of work that you can miss out on in larger organisations. We often overlap on projects with other teams within the corporate area and more broadly in ONA. These require collaboration and increase your understanding of the organisation's functions as a whole. In Defence there was little visibility of the hierarchy; at ONA I know them all by first name. The Senior Leadership Group value the work we do and communicate this to the staff at functions and in their management style.
