Candidate Requirements
To be
eligible for employment with ONA you must be an Australian
Citizen. Given the sensitive nature of ONA's work, there also
are a number of special requirements which prospective candidates
should be aware of:
- Preferred candidates are required to meet personal security assessment requirements which are intrusive and stringent. The assessments include background, financial and psychological review. The assessments are an integral component of the recruitment process, and are reviewed at intervals during employment with ONA. Staff members are paid an allowance in recognition of these requirements.
- Candidates should note that ONA has a zero tolerance policy in relation to recent or ongoing use of illegal substances.
- ONA operates in a secure environment and restrictions apply to personal visitors and bringing particular items, such as mobile telephones, electronic organisers, cameras, recording equipment, into the Office.
- Staff and contractors employed by ONA may be required to submit bags for inspection upon entry and departure from the Office.
- Staff members are required to advise the Office of any proposed private overseas travel and to seek approval for travel to certain specified countries. Restrictions may also apply to private overseas travel to specified countries for a period of 12 months after employment with ONA.
- Restrictions apply to dealing or speaking to the media or to the private publication of any written material while employed with ONA. Publication may be agreed in certain circumstances subject to ONA approval of the manuscript.
- Full auditing is undertaken of all activities on ONA's computer systems, including email.
- Staff members and contractors are required to comply at all times with ONA's security policies.
